The state is now collecting over a $1.00 per gallon from Washington drivers in taxes and fees on gasoline alone. Independent sources, such as Washington Policy Center and the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) estimate that based on the December 6th auction price, the new cap and trade program is adding about 45 cents per gallon to the cost of gasoline and 53 cents per gallon for diesel. The Seattle Times reports that the Department of Ecology has collected almost $2 Billion in compliance costs so far this year. These costs are at least four times higher than originally estimated when the legislature voted cap-and-trade into law. And now Governor Inslee is proposing even MORE costly regulations on fuel suppliers and trying to shift the blame for these high costs away from the true cause – the state’s own costly taxes and fees on gasoline! In fact, it’s THE STATE that’s making a windfall on gasoline, not businesses and fuel suppliers. More regulations will NOT reduce gas prices! I urge you to work with your legislative colleagues to fix high fuel prices and ease the enormous cost burdens on Washington families, small businesses, family farmers and working people across our state.HiddenRepresentative Emails CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
