Washington State now has the second highest gas prices in the country, sitting just behind California. This is despite having five refineries located within the state. So why are prices so high?
According to State Sen. John Braun (R-Chehalis), the answer lies in a combination of excessive regulation, sky-high gas taxes, and, crucially, the Climate Commitment Act (CCA).
The CCA is a cap and invest program that charges companies for carbon emissions. While it’s marketed as a climate solution, it functions as a hidden gas tax adding approximately 50 cents per gallon to fuel costs. “We’re adding all this cost to people around our state under the guise that we’re going to somehow reduce carbon, and doing almost nothing in that regard,” claims Braun. …
